Sam Waksal, former CEO of ImClone Systems

Late last week I blogged that ImClone Systems founder and former CEO Sam Waksal was, according to a source, going to get out of a federal prison in Michigan and move into a halfway house in the Bronx between August 7th and the 14th.

I was beginning to think it wasn't gonna happen in that time frame, but then late yesterday CNBC got confirmation from the Federal Bureau of Prisons that he'd indeed left the Milan facility for the new place in New York where he will presumably stay until his sentence is up early next year.
In the meantime, I guess, he can watch and read about the IMCL [IMCL  Loading...      ()   ]

takeover battle with Bristol-Myers Squibb[BMY  Loading...      ()   ]. Carl Icahn's latest investment disclosure statement filed with the SEC yesterday doesn't show any change in the size of his ImClone holding.

I'm not sure what life in a Bronx halfway house is like. My biological mother served a few months in a Cleveland halfway house in the 1990s, but she didn't want me to visit. Her reason for being there is no secret since her story was featured on "60 Minutes" several years ago.

Quick back story. After we were reunited (I was adopted) she fell into a career helping other adoptees and bioparents find each other. But the feds nabbed her for posing as other people on the phone to get identifying information for her clients.

Misrepresenting myself is something I wouldn't do as a reporter/journalist. I'm not gonna sneak into the Bronx halfway house posing as a visitor in order to try to get to see Sam. As I think any of my professional contacts will tell you, I am always right up front and direct about what I'm after.

So, Sam Waksal, if you're reading this, consider it a request for an exclusive interview.
