I'm not sure what life in a Bronx halfway house is like. My biological mother served a few months in a Cleveland halfway house in the 1990s, but she didn't want me to visit. Her reason for being there is no secret since her story was featured on "60 Minutes" several years ago.
Quick back story. After we were reunited (I was adopted) she fell into a career helping other adoptees and bioparents find each other. But the feds nabbed her for posing as other people on the phone to get identifying information for her clients.
Misrepresenting myself is something I wouldn't do as a reporter/journalist. I'm not gonna sneak into the Bronx halfway house posing as a visitor in order to try to get to see Sam. As I think any of my professional contacts will tell you, I am always right up front and direct about what I'm after.
So, Sam Waksal, if you're reading this, consider it a request for an exclusive interview.
